But the most popular activity that tourists really travel for miles across to Vanuatu for is hiking.

I’ve sorted out the top 5 hiking trails in Vanuatu from easiest to the most difficult. So strap on your best hiking daypacks and get moving!

1. Cascade Waterfalls on Efate Island

This is definitely recommended for first-timers which requires a low fitness level. You can go on a guided tour up to the waterfalls or you can explore on your own. It’s a 15 to 20-minute walk to the waterfalls with short and easy paths. The brilliant blue pools at the base of the waterfalls will make you never want to leave!

2. Malekula Hiking Trail on Kastom Island

This trail is perfect for all levels as they have easy trails like the Melken Hike which takes 2 to 3 hours with clear paths, and more challenging trails like the Dog Head Walk which takes a full day of trekking! No matter what your cup of tea is, you can enjoy river crossings along the way.

3. Mount Yasur on Tanna Island

A lot of tourists travel to Vanuatu because of this trail on Tanna Island. It requires a basic fitness level and a manageable 2-hour trek. Trekking to Mount Yasur will give you an amazing but chill to the bone experience, standing close to volcano craters as it shoots large chunks of molten lava up in the air with 5-minute intervals. Nature is splendid, isn’t it?

Hiking trails on volcanoes in Vanuatu islands are some of the most spectacular treks,
especially when they involve seeing molten lava shooting up.

4. Marum Volcano on Ambrym Island

Make sure to strap on your best hiking daypacks because this trail is definitely not for the faint of hearts. It’s a 6-hour hike with some vertical climbs on Ambrym Island. And since this is one of the remote islands in Vanuatu, hikers camp for the night at the base of the mountain on ash plain. But the whole experience is definitely worth it because you get to enjoy an amazing view of two lava lakes!

5. Millenium Cave on Espiritu Santo Island

Make sure you don’t get cold feet when hiking in this trail because it requires a high fitness level. The full cave tour is a grueling 6-hour hike in slippery paths, icy underground waters, steep rocks, and muddy trails, on this largest island in Vanuatu.

Calling all adrenaline junkies!
