Part of Havanna Harbour, along with
The island of Moso is located off the north coast of Efate, where it creates what is known as Havanna Harbor
(also known as Port Havannah), along with Lelepa Island. There are no cars or roads
on the island, and it is a very tranquil place. The island is great for hiking, as you can walk aynwhere.
This makes it ideal for a small day tour, which is exactly what Sunae community is attempting to do, on the
eastern part of the island. This is also where parts of French Survivor TV series were filmed.
The island's inhabitants mostly live from fishing and agriculture, supplementing their livelihood with tourism,
too. This mostly come from small tours and Tranquility Dive Resort.
|Moso island is home to Tranquility Dive Resort, very popular with divers, offering
18 dive sites.
Sunae and Tassiriki villages
You will find two villages on the island, Sunae and Tassiriki. Originally there was only one, Sunae community on
the island, scattered in seven villages on the island's coastline. Eventually missionaires facilitated
formation of only one village, Sunae.
But in the 1990s, some of Sunae people split from the community, to form another community in central parts of
the island, naming it Tassiriki, where most of the island inhabitants live.
In Tassiriki village is a rather popular turtle preserve, designed to help endangered turtle species from
the South Pacific region. A community bungalow on the site helps the program
volunteers to accommodate for brief periods.
Tranquility Dive Resort
On the western side of the island, which is well known for the spectacular diving, is the Tranquility Dive and
Resort. Formally known as Tranquility Island Eco Resort and Dive Base, it's well known for scuba diving, with 18
different dive sites.
There are also hiking sites, kayaking and fishing charters available at the resort.
The resort offers private bungalows and mixed dormitory room accommodation, with shared bathroom
facilities. Bed and Breakfast packages available.
The Beach House Restaurant at the resort offers different menu meals every day, tea and coffee refreshments, as
well as drinks at the bar.
Tranqulity Dive Resort can be reached via boat or shuttle bus, in approximately 1 hour from Port Vila
Bauerfield International Airport, or in 20 minutes from Havannah Harbour.
