The Most Popular of the Vanuatu Islands for Tourists
The Vanuatu archipelago, which is located about a thousand miles from the coast of Australia, continues to be
popular vacation spots for tourists who arrive from all around the country. Each of the islands is beautiful, a
paradise just waiting for someone to come along and explore.
Some of the 83 islands seem completely untouched by humankind. Others are destinations for countless tourists
every year. A few of the most popular islands for visitors are Moso Island, Espiritu Santo, Tanna, and Efate.
Moso Island
The island of Moso is located off the north coast of Efate, where it creates what is known as Havanna Harbor,
along with Lelepa Island. There are no cars or roads on the island, and it is a very tranquil place. You will find
two villages on the island, Sunae and Tassiriki. In Tassiriki is a rather popular turtle preserve, and there is a
small tour business located in Sunae. On the western side of the island, which is well known for the spectacular
diving, is the Tranquility Dive and Resort.
Tanna Island
Tanna Island is a popular destination for adventure tourists and has a variety of places for vacationers to
stay, including bungalows and guesthouses. The island is home to Mount Yasur, the most active volcano on any of the
Vanuatu islands. You will also find plenty of great opportunities for hiking and exploring.
Espiritu Santo
This is the largest of the islands, and the city of Luganville is the second largest city in Vanuatu. It has
some of the best diving sites– it boasts the SS President Coolidge, which is the largest, intact diving wreck in
the world, as well as the USS Tucker, a destroyer. This island is one of the best places to experience the
authentic culture of Vanuatu and still have all the amenities you need.

Efate Island
Port Vila, the capital of Vanuatu, is located on Efate Island. It is on Efate that most of the tourists come and
stay for vacation, and it has the most amenities. Even those who wish to visit a number of the other islands often
stop in Port Vila to make arrangements. Like all of the Vanuatu islands, Efate is beautiful and tropical.
These are only the most visited of the islands. Certainly, you may wish to visit more than just this handful of
islands while on your Vanuatu vacation and you should explore to your heart’s content.
