Port Vila Attractions
Attractions in Port Vila, Capital of Vanuatu
_____________________________________________________________________
When people consider vacationing in Port Vila, the capital
city of the Vanuatu Islands in the South Pacific, the biggest draw is the location. The island is beautiful,
tropical, covered in lush vegetation and palm trees that line the white sandy beaches. To say that it is
picturesque would be a severe understatement.
Still, Port Vila has far more to offer vacationers than the regular sand and
water. Tourists can find many things to see while in the city, things that they wouldn’t be able to experience
elsewhere.
Bluewater Island Aquarium
The Bluewater Island Aquarium is not an “aquarium” in the sense that most
people might think. You won’t find killer whales doing tricks and you won’t find any motion rides like you would in
SeaWorld. This aquarium offers you a chance to get close to marine animals that you probably wouldn’t be able to in
the wild.
Visitors can hand feed sea turtles in one section of the aquarium. Another
section has you feeding black-tipped reef sharks. It is a one of a kind experience.
Underwater Post Office
Located in the Hideaway Island marine sanctuary is the world’s only underwater
post office. You can buy a postcard on land and then head to the underwater post office to mail it off – you do not
need diving experience as it is only about three meters underwater. When you are in Vanuatu, this is something that
you must do – not very many people in the world get the chance to visit the only submerged post office in the
world.

Horseback Riding
You can take a relaxing horseback ride outside of the city. Travel through
fields and rainforest or even along the beach, depending on the tour you take. Most of the horseback riding
facilities can show you the basics of riding a horse, so you don’t have to worry if you don’t have any experience.
This is a great way to see the land and to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life.
Shopping in Port Vila
You will want to walk around the city and check out the different markets and
shops that offer handmade items as well as other traditional souvenirs. No one likes to come home without souvenirs
– and don’t forget to get something for everyone back home!
These are only a few of the things that you can do that don’t involve lounging
on a beach and sipping a tropical drink while in Port Vila – although, that sounds good, too!
