2008 Vanuatu Tourism Awards
The 2008 Vanuatu
Tourism Awards have been judged and the awards presented in a
spectacular Gala dinner held on Saturday 6th December at Le Lagon
Resort. The evening was aided by balmy weather and a magnificently
prepared venue, which was due to the combined efforts of Le Lagon
Resort and Events Vanuatu who also assisted the 2008 organizing
committee to plan and decorate the venue. The evening unfolded with
a combination of great food and entertainment by Crowning
Moments.
The all important
awards presentation was soon underway with Chairman Bryan Death
updating the Industry Associates with some very positive data on
Vanuatu tourism arrivals in 2008 and he delivered a clear and
positive message regarding the future as the world economies
struggle with the global monetary crisis and the possible downturn
in visitors. Bryan was confident that Vanuatu was well positioned
to capture it’s fair share of the tourism dollar from Australia and
New Zealand particularly as the destination still represented great
value with low season airfares and accommodation offering keeping
Vanuatu at the forefront of traveler’s minds.
The
Awards saw some new categories introduced for the first time
including a Green Award won by “Epi Island Guest House”, Best New
Tourism Business award won by “Eratap Beach Resort”, Best Tourism
Specialist services won by “Events Vanuatu” best Restaurant /
Catering Services won by “Vila Chaumiere” Outstanding Achievement
Award won by “Solomon Mantana from Island Dreams Kayaking”. The
evening culminated with the awarding of the prestigious Chairman’s
Award which this year was awarded to current VHRA Chairman, Tony
Burns. (Source: VTO Island Nius – December
