Exciting and Enjoyable Experience of Sailing in Vanuatu

The water is part of everyday life in the beautiful islands of Vanuatu. The ocean provides food for the table, acts as a highway and also provides enjoyment for residents and visitors alike. Exploring the islands is best done from the water, as well. A leisurely cruise through the islands can be an incredibly exciting experience that creates memories for a lifetime.

Visitors will find a wide variety of companies and private operators offering sailing trips through the islands. Where can you sail? What can you expect to find and where can you stay when not on the water? All these questions and more must be answered for you to enjoy the trip to the utmost. Here are a few of the best choices for your Vanuatu sailing adventure.

Start Your Sailing Adventure in Port Vila

The best place from which to start your adventure is Port Vila, on Efate island. You'll find the largest concentration of tour operators and private charters here, in the capital of the nation. You will also find that this is the best place to begin a vacation with a night on the town. The city boasts fine dining, nightclubs and more. Have a night of dry land fun before embarking on your expedition by sea.

Once on the water, you'll enjoy numerous opportunities for exploration. While Santo and Malekula islands offer numerous options for enjoyment, make sure your tour takes you to the outlying islands, as well. While many of these are uninhabited, several feature traditional villages, where the way of life has not changed dramatically in thousands of years. You'll find almost no electricity (except the occasional generator) and few modern amenities. You will find an incredible and friendly people, though.

Explore the Islands of Vanuatu

Explore the uninhabited islands for a bit of "Robinson Crusoe" enjoyment. You'll find deserted beaches, palm trees and secluded lagoons for your enjoyment. During your cruise, make sure you stop at Ambrym Island; the Rom dances are fantastic, and you have the chance to climb 2 active volcanoes! Numerous coconut plantations on the island offer you enjoyment, as well.

Pentecost Island offers you adventure and exploration, as well as more traditional villages. Once again, you'll find little in the way of modern amenities, but the people more than make up for the lack of luxury. Visit with the villagers, share their meals and learn their customs. Cruises through the islands should take at least 5 days to truly enjoy the area, though 10-day options and longer are available through certain tour companies.
